DESCRIPTION 

We invite young artists passionate about teaching and making a difference in their communities to apply for this unique opportunity.

The East London Guild Theatre, in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Arts Sector and AIS staff, is delighted to announce the opening of our recruitment call for the Artist in Schools (AIS) Programme for the 2024-25 term. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture (DSAC) at national and provincial levels, along with the Eastern Cape Department of Basic Education (DEO), for their unwavering support since the program’s inception in 2014.

Contract Duration: 7 months

Salary: R4500.00 per month (no transport incentives)

KEY TASKS

. Actively demonstrate techniques and show an adequate understanding of field jargon, offering

creative ways for classroom learners to assimilate information.

. Adhere to current teaching methodologies that are both qualitatively researched and trauma-

informed to create a safe learning environment for pupils.

. Grade students through projects and examinations, analyze their progress through reporting and create follow-up plans to assist and guide struggling students.

. Lecture and teach students the deep and meaningful history and practice of art and its impact on society.

. Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and creative arts abilities.

. Instruct students in the proper care and use of tools and equipment.

. Organize storage areas and administer procedures for the use of art materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss and/or abuse.

. Plan and present performances and exhibitions designed to showcase students’ work for the school, community, and other relevant platforms, such as a Creative Arts Festival.

. Collect data (Help desk).

Coordinate research and projects.

SUITABLE CANDIDATES MUST SUPPLY US WITH THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

. Professional artists with a minimum of two (2) references, Grade 12 certification, or tertiary

qualification will be advantageous.

. Must be older than 21 years.

. Based in the Eastern Cape.

. Display artistic and people skills along with teaching skills.

. Able to build products and present them.

. Capable of writing comprehensive reports and accounts.

. Must be technologically inclined and possess a smartphone for communication
