PURPOSE

The main purpose of this position is to be responsible for all community outreach activities related to the clinical trial, engagement with the community advisory boards and to act as a community liaison for FPD research studies.

This includes implementation of community engagement plans for effective recruitment, retention, and accrual of participants for research studies in the Ndevana community.

REQUIREMENTS

Degree in Social Sciences or other related fields.

Experience with community-based projects.

Experience in stakeholder relationship management.

Experience in implementing community awareness campaigns.

Previous work experience in a research environment would be advantageous.

Valid code 08 driver’s license

SkILLS & COMPETENCIES

Strong social media skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

In-depth knowledge of the Ndevana community where the study takes place.

Willingness to travel extensively.

Proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing isiXhosa and English.

Proficiency in another local language will be advantageous.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Implement community education and outreach programs in relation to research protocols and study needs within a Good Participatory Practice (GPP) guidelines framework.

Manage the community team and implement recruitment, retention and accrual plans to ensure eligible participants take part in research studies.

Facilitate relationships with study communities through advisory mechanism that include supporting and liaising with the Community Advisory Boards (CABs) and other community stakeholders.

Facilitate relationships and provide a supportive environment for participants, and between study sites and collaborators with local clinics.

Ensure team coherence of community health workers as appropriate, and adhere to site targets, protocol, and guidelines.

Execution of community outreach events, awareness campaigns and activities.

Seek to be up to date on PrEP, STIs, HIV and TB research information and ensure community outreach teams are updated as well.

Attend training programmes, workshops and conferences related to research carried out at the Ndevana Community Research Site.

Constructive contribution to an effective community education programme, trials & research recruitment programme & initiatives, and retention programme & strategies.Implement community education, recruitment, and retention programmes.

Assist with participant’s call for visit reminders.Participate in monthly facility meetings and FPD internal skills development meetings.

Perform any reasonable other study duty as requested by management and study principal investigators.
